How retailer links work on this tool

Amazon Associates disclosure

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Amazon UK is currently the only retailer configured on this tool. "Search on Amazon" buttons take you to an Amazon UK search results page for the product you entered, carrying Considered's Associates tracking ID — you'll land on amazon.co.uk itself, not a Considered redirect page, so the destination is never hidden.

What this means, in practice

• Retailer buttons are clearly labelled with where they go (e.g. "Search on Amazon") — never a vague "Buy now".
• Retailer links only ever appear after the financial analysis, once you've already seen the total cost, cost/use and comparison figures — not before them.
• Considered does not claim to know today's live price for any product. If a retailer link shows a price, that figure comes from the retailer, not from Considered.
• Affiliate commission is never a factor in any number the calculator shows you. See "How this is kept separate" below.

How this is kept separate from the maths

The calculator and the retailer/affiliate area are built as two independent parts of this tool:

• The calculation engine (which works out total cost, cost/year, cost/use and every comparison figure) has no code path that can receive a commission rate, a retailer name, or anything from the affiliate/retailer module as an input.
• The retailer/affiliate module runs afterwards, only to decide what commercial links (if any) to display — it has no ability to change a result that's already been calculated.
• No retailer is shown more prominently, or ranked more favourably, because it pays Considered more. In this version of the tool, only Amazon UK is configured at all.
• Alternatives you add for comparison are never reordered based on whether a retailer link is available for them — they stay in the order you added them.

Analytics

This tool ships with its event-tracking hooks present in the code but switched off — v1 sends no analytics anywhere (see the maintainer README for why). If and when that changes, the same rule will still apply: it will only ever record non-sensitive, category-level usage events (for example, that a calculation was completed, or that a retailer button was clicked and which retailer), never what you entered as a price, income, savings, debt or any other financial figure — those stay in your browser only. Other referral relationships

Separately from the retailer links on this tool, Considered has referral relationships with Ko-fi and Octopus Energy, shown in the "Support Considered" section of this and other tool pages. Those work the same way — clearly marked, and never something that changes a calculator's assumptions or results.
