This tool asks for your annual electricity bill and converts it to an estimated annual usage using a typical blended import rate (27p/kWh peak, 8p/kWh off-peak, with a fifth of use assumed off-peak). It then sizes a solar array and/or battery based on the property size you choose, and runs the same year-by-year model as the full Home Energy Investment Calculator: solar generation and degradation, direct use versus stored versus exported energy, battery charging and round-trip losses, energy price inflation, and ongoing maintenance and inverter replacement costs.
The difference is entirely in the inputs. The full calculator lets you replace every one of these assumptions with your own bills, installer quote and tariff; this tool fills them in with typical UK figures so you can get a rough answer with almost no information.
Important: because so much is assumed rather than entered by you, treat the result as a starting point for deciding whether to get a real quote — not as a substitute for one.
