They will drift out of date, so treat them as a rough guide to typical £/kWh rather than today's exact market price.

How this works, and why some prices are marked "estimated"
Price per kWh. (Price you enter + inverter cost, if you tick that box) ÷ usable capacity in kWh. That's it. It is deliberately a simple ratio rather than the full ownership cost calculation the Battery Comparison Tool does (which also accounts for cycle life, round-trip efficiency and running costs). Use this tool for a quick sanity check on a price; use the full comparison tool when you're weighing up a purchase properly.
Two separate reference groups by default. Plug-in and portable power stations are priced very differently from professionally installed home battery systems. Portable units are generally DIY with the inverter built in, while installed systems include professional fitting and wiring. Each is benchmarked only against others in its own group unless you tick "Compare plug-in and installed systems together" above the chart — that's your call to make, not this tool's, since whether the comparison is fair depends on your own situation (space, DIY appetite, whether you want it wired into your consumer unit).
How many units? matters for the total cost, but not for £/kWh because multiplying price and capacity by the same number cancels out, so 3× a 5kWh unit at £1,350 prices identically per kWh to 1× the same unit. The quantity field exists purely to show a concrete total (e.g. "£4,050 for 15kWh") when you're pricing up several units to reach a target capacity. Any inverter cost you add is treated as a single shared cost, not multiplied by quantity.
Why some plug-in prices are still estimated. EcoFlow now publishes UK pricing for the STREAM AC 5000, so that reference is confirmed. Some exact Anker and Jackery models in this comparison are still not sold with a directly-published UK manufacturer price, so those entries remain converted from current EU pricing and are clearly flagged "Estimated" rather than presented as confirmed UK figures.
This reference list is manually maintained, not fetched live from retailers because there is no public pricing API for these products to pull from, unlike the live Octopus Energy pricing used elsewhere on this site. The "known battery" dropdown fills in the form from this same list so a stale price is a quick edit rather than a re-type. Added Octopus Energy and Axle Energy referral cards near the top of the tool. Reworked several sentences to make the page read more naturally and removed unnecessary dash-heavy wording, while leaving the calculations and comparison methodology unchanged.
UK pricing refresh
Reference prices re-checked on 22 August 2026. EcoFlow STREAM AC 5000 now uses the official UK launch offer (£1,399 via the £9.90 deposit route) instead of an estimated euro conversion, and is marked as a confirmed UK price. Source and methodology notes were refreshed so promotional pricing and remaining EU-derived estimates are explicit.
Colours, a known-battery picker, and cross-group comparison
Reference bars now use a dedicated slate colour instead of the site's text-muted grey, chosen so they clearly recede behind the highlighted entry rather than competing with it — and every value label moved outside the bar so it's always legible. Added a "known battery" dropdown that fills in the form from the reference list (still fully editable), a quantity field for pricing multiple units, and an optional toggle to compare plug-in and installed systems together in one chart — so "a Powerwall 3, or 3× an EcoFlow AC5000?" is now a question this tool can actually show side by side.
